Privacy & email policy

Last updated: October 23, 2026. This is a plain-language summary of how we handle your information.

What we collect. When you ask for a local guide, we store your email address, your ZIP code, the county and districts your ZIP routes to, and which emails you agreed to receive, with the date and time of each agreement. To limit spam signups we also store a scrambled (hashed) fingerprint of the internet address you signed up from — never the address itself in readable form.

The two kinds of email — separately. There are two separate agreements, and we keep them separate:

  • Ballot guide and reminders (the required checkbox): your guide, plus a small number of election reminders — registration deadlines, mail-ballot dates — for your ZIP code.
  • Ballot-initiative updates (the optional checkbox, off unless you turn it on): news about new California ballot initiatives, such as signature drives and qualification campaigns. If you did not check this box, you will never receive these emails.

Street addresses. The signup form never asks for your street address. If we later offer an exact-ballot lookup and you choose to type your address, it is used only to find your exact ballot, it is stored encrypted, and it is never sold or shared.

What we never do. We do not sell your email address, ZIP code, or any address you give us. We do not share them with campaigns or advertisers. We do not send emails you did not agree to.

Stopping is easy. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately.

Deleting your information. Email hello@getballothelp.com from the address you signed up with and ask us to delete it. We will remove your record and confirm by reply.

Not a government site. GetBallotHelp.com is not affiliated with any election office. Always confirm your ballot and voting options with your county elections office.
